ON THE COVER: The cover photo by Steve Young of Frenchville, Maine, was taken on the Stanley and Gale Flagg property in Wallagrass. Among the woodland plants growing on a decaying stump are (1) bunchberry (cornus canadensis) and (2) twin flower (linnea borealis). Both plants were once used by Native Americans as tonics for the treatment of a range of illnesses and related symptoms.
